Course Objectives

By the end of the course the delegate should be able to:

  • Prepare to work safely in confined spaces of high risk.
  • Prepare and use self-contained open circuit breathing apparatus in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Enter and exit confined spaces of high risk safely.
  • Form a safe system of work for the operation and follow it.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of responsibilities under relevant legislation.
  • Identify hazards and associated risks involved when entering confined spaces.
  • Implement control measures such as ventilation and gas detection to eliminate potential risks.
  • Select, inspect and use appropriate gas detection equipment.
  • Interpret results of the gas detector readings and know what action to take.
  • Understand the significance of, and work to, entry permits and safe working procedures.
  • Implement emergency procedures.
  • Inspect, clean and use escape sets and breathing apparatus.
  • Understand the duties of the stand-by man/topman.

Refresher Period

Confined Space Entry High Risk Refresher Course after 3 years.

Any Other Relevant Information

This course includes the use of escape sets and breathing apparatus.

This course is conducted on site (if suitable) or at our satellite centre in Kirkintilloch.

The course complies with the Level 3 Vocationally Related Qualification (6150-03).

The practical aspects of this course require the candidate to confirm they have a reasonable level of fitness.
