Course Objectives

By the end of the course the delegate should be able to:

  • Select the correct type of Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP).
  • Understand the importance of pre-start inspection/maintenance.
  • Understand correct emergency procedures, capacities and limitations of MEWP.
  • Have an understanding of responsibilities under current relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrate an understanding for the need of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Demonstrate their competence to plan, supervise and manage use of MEWPs.

IPAF PAL Card – Valid for 5 years.

Central Training Services Limited Theory and Practical Certificate – Valid for 3 years.

Refresher Period

IPAF MM Renewal Course after 5 years.

MEWP Refresher Course after 3 years for in-house courses.

Any Other Relevant Information

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) issue the PAL Card (Powered Access Licence) to platform operators who have successfully completed a training course conducted by an IPAF approved training centre.

This course instructs a supervisor/manager on what is required to prepare for and safely coordinate various types of MEWPs on site.  This course is not about operating equipment.  It is targeted at managers responsible for planning or overseeing the use of MEWPs in many sectors including construction, facilities management, retail, airports, leisure parks, industrial cleaning and tree surgery.
